I heard about the case against 400 government employees whose Facebook profiles were handed over after they were suspected of abusing the disabilities policy in New York. The suspects were seen in Facebook posts playing sports, posing on beaches and taking lavish vacations, with their injuries mysteriously gone and their disability checks cashed. These were clear cases of fraud!
New York law enforcement officials got word of the incriminating posts and took legal steps to gain access to the profiles as fast as they could. The presiding judge rightfully ruled in favor of the state and allowed prosecutors to recover the profiles. Facebook fought against this ruling but the social media site eventually lost. The profiles were turned over to the New York prosecutors and criminal cases are being built against 134 active suspects.
In light of all the legal drama, I’m showing you 3 ways to up your privacy on Facebook.
